The city of Birmingham was once again ignited with passion, unity, and athletic brilliance as the annual Football for Fitness tournament returned in spectacular fashion. Organized by the Football 4 Fitness Group, the highly anticipated grassroots event brought together vibrant teams and spirited spectators for a day of exhilarating football, community bonding, and festive celebration.

The tournament, which has grown into a signature sporting fixture within Birmingham’s diverse community, was held at the Rising Star Pitch, directly opposite the iconic Aston Villa FC Stadium, providing an inspiring backdrop for a day of top-tier amateur football.

This year’s tournament featured eight dynamic teams, divided into two competitive groups:

Group A

  • Team Enny – led by Eniola Bisiriyu
  • Team Fred – led by Frank
  • Team King Mike – led by Mike Akinlade
  • Team Seni – led by Seni Isola

 Group B

  • Team Emperor – led by Femi Fagoke aka FM Emperor
  • Team Baslaw – led by Habass Lawal
  • Team Invincibles – led by Saheed Ajanaku aka Haji S.A.M
  • Team Vittorio – led by Maruf Ajibike aka Sir Murphy

From the first whistle, the pitch was charged with energy. Each team brought its own unique strategy and flair, with tactical duels, moments of individual brilliance, and team chemistry on full display.

After an intense day of group matches and knockouts, it all boiled down to a dramatic final between Team Baslaw and Team Fred. Both sides had shown exceptional skill and resilience throughout the tournament, and expectations were sky-high.

Despite end-to-end action, the final match ended goalless in regular time, prompting a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. Ultimately, Team Baslaw triumphed 2-1 in the shootout, lifting the winner’s trophy amid cheers and applause.

Several players stood out on the day, earning accolades for their performances:

  • Most Valuable Player (MVP): Aliu Balogun – a powerhouse presence on the field whose skill and leadership drove Team FRED to the final game.
  • Best Goalkeeper: Taoreed “TeeJay” – whose reflexes and command in the box kept his team in the game on multiple occasions.
  • Best Young Player: Samuel Ashinze – a rising star whose agility and composure belied his age.
  • Highest Goal Scorer: Ola Daud – whose relentless drive and finishing made him a standout striker.
  • Best Goal: Wale Issa – for a sensational strike that left fans and opponents in awe.
